What is the Mike Mansfield Globe?

This globe was donated by late Kei Wakaizumi in 1988,
a Japanese politician who, as a special envoy of then prime minister Eisaku Sato, negotiated with the United States for the reversion of Okinawa to Japan.
He donated this globe in the hope of fostering dreams of a better world among the youth of the next generation.

Then This globe was later named the Mike Mansfield Globe after Mr. Mike Mansfield, former U.S ambassador to Japan, who visited the FIA Plaza during his visit to Fukui.
As the symbol of FIA Plaza, this globe has helped the visitors to turn their eyes to the world.
